When will puberty finally finish?
Not only genetic predisposition and hormonal balance affect the skin. Food also influences.
Puberty had happened years ago. Even then, it was annoying to have a face full of red dots. But in those days at least others also had acne. At 30, it is assumed that phase should have already been left behind. Isn’t it?
Women are usually the most affected by acne in adulthood. There are many reasons: one of the main causes is the sebaceous glands. The higher your activity, the larger the pores and more oily the skin. If the sebaceous glands are blocked, the so called “pimples” appear, even after puberty. The reason is that some people simply have a greater genetic predisposition to it.
Another reason may be hormones. An imbalance in sex hormones (in the case of women, a lot of male hormones) can cause pores to be clogged more frequently. Women often notice that their skin is altered after hormonal changes, either by stopping taking birth control pills or after labour.
However, not only the genetic predisposition and hormonal balance affect the skin. The diet also influences. Foods with a high glycaemic index have an effect on the skin. If the sugar level rises, this affects the production of the sebaceous glands. Therefore, it is recommended measured foods rich in sugars and carbohydrates and saturated fat acids.
Experts believe that even milk can aggravate acne problems because the proteins they contain are irritant. So in this case it is also recommended to consume animal products in moderation. Plant proteins, however, are not a problem. As an extra recommendation, it is recommended drinking plenty of water.
Moreover, there is also a psychological factor. The skin is a mirror that reflects how you feel inside, both spiritually as organic. As adults have even less tolerance to have something on their faces than teenagers, they often have acne on the chin, where it is easier fiddling with the skin. This has consequences, since the hands and nails are never clinically clean. Thus, when poking on the chin it spreads the bacteria that causes acne.
Poor hygiene can also damage the picture. Dermatologists recommend not to use products with mineral oil. Some acne products do not have the desired effect: they are very aggressive and dry the skin. If the skin has little oil, it produces more. Therefore, experts recommend light creams and gels, gentle cleansers with few chemicals. That is, the ideal is to make a cleansing that is based on hydration and clean the skin not only at night but also during the day.
The palette of possible causes is great. Therefore, experts recommend addressing the problem with a dermatologist and to agree on a plan among others. The specialist can work with a gynaecologist to determine how the hormone level is. It can also appeal to the experience of a cosmetologist to make skin peels treatments with fruit acids that remove the upper skin flakes. They also serve to cleanse the skin gently, which prevents pimples to appear, which are usually touched with the hands.
One such therapy, that combat acne from several fronts, can last up to a year.
